This week’s Hardcore MBA guest is a great inspiration to all those of us who need a bit of motivation, whether it be to put our business ideas to the test or simply to get off the couch. Brad Feld is a founder of the Foundry Group, author of multiple books, runs the Techstars business accelerator, and, in case that wasn’t enough, aims to run a marathon in all 50 US states! Somehow, he found a little time in his busy schedule to talk to me, and you’ll be glad he did when you listen to this week’s podcast.
In this week’s Hardcore MBA, Brad and I discuss:
- The great advantages that come from getting involved in a mentor-driven accelerator program like Techstars.
- The difference between people who are intrinsically or extrinsically motivated.
- And what Brad believes will be the most important theme of the coming years in the technology industry.
Talking about Techstars, David told me “the types of companies we’ve had apply in recent years has varied widely, so whatever you’re interested in could potentially be suitable. And the stages of development have varied a lot as well – some people come to us with only the germ of an idea, others come with something more fully developed. What’s maybe most important is sending something in near the beginning of the application window, which gives you time to work on the project between applying and actually starting the program. That can provide a big boost.”
Techstars is the kind of excellent program that I wish I could have got on to when I was starting out, and I highly recommend anyone who can apply to do so. For more information about Brad, check out his page at the Foundry Group or some of his excellent books on Amazon.
