It’s not every day you get to talk to a million dollar party girl, but that’s exactly what Lynn Bardowski calls herself – check out her website here. Lynn’s been an entrepreneur for over twenty years and is at the absolute top of here game – only 5% of all businesses in the US make more than a million dollars a year in revenue, and that number is even smaller for solo female entrepreneurs. Lynn is one of those people. Well, I always say, if you’re going to get advice, get it from the best.
Things can be tough for new entrepreneurs, and even tougher for women who are entering a traditionally male sphere – how did you find that? “It is hard at first, especially if you’re coming from having a job and all the security that gives you. It hurts your ego to let that go. And even your own family members might not support you because they get some of their own ego from your position – but you just have to be yourself, if you do that you’ll attract the right people, the people who get you.”
“And this is a really exciting time for women who are going into business – a lot of women in their twenties and thirties are really embracing the entrepreneurial spirit, and there’s a lot of resources and role models out there for them. I think that helps a lot – once you see other people doing something, you realize that you can do it as well, and I think that’s why my book was so popular.”
Lynn also has some advice for those entrepreneurs who are just getting started: “I always say people need to start with a vision, and then develop specific goals from there. Your vision should lay out what you want to achieve in ten words or less – for me, it was ’empowering entrepreneurs to discover their glow’”. Something that Lynn has certainly achieved over the last two decades!
In the rest of our chat, Lynn and I cover:
